Center for Environmental Farming Systems (CEFS) is a partnership of North Carolina State, NC A&T State University, and the NC Department of Agriculture and includes a collaboration of university faculty and students, state and federal agencies, farmers, non-governmental organizations, and individuals. CEFS mission is to promote just and equitable food and farming systems that conserve natural resources, strengthen communities, improve health outcomes, and provide economic opportunities in North Carolina and beyond. They have a 2000-acre research and outreach facility, and work statewide in local food systems development. CEFS flourishes as one of the nation's most important centers for research, extension and education in sustainable agriculture and community-based food systems.
Nancy Creamer is the Director of CEFS and a Distinguished Professor of Sustainable Agriculture and Community Based Food Systems at North Carolina State University. Her research and extension responsibilities have included sustainable and organic production systems, using winter and summer cover crops in vegetable production systems, long-term comparative farming systems trials, and organic transition strategies, however most of her work now is focused on local food systems initiatives, including supply chain development. She was appointed by the Governor to the Sustainable Local Foods Advisory Council and served as vice-chair of the council through 2013.
