The UMass Amherst Urban Agriculture and Nutrition Program, based in the Stockbridge School of Agriculture, Dept. of Nutrition and the UMass Nutrition Education Program at UMass Amherst, is a holistic initiative to increase fruit and vegetable consumption of residents in urban areas of Massachusetts. Frank Mangan and his team are focusing on crops popular among the large and growing immigrant population, the majority of whom live in urban settings. Our goal is to increase the local production of crops desired by these communities, and to collaborate with producers in other regions of the US and outside the US to supply culturally-appropriate crops that cannot be grown in the Northeastern US.
Frank Mangan is an Extension Associate Professor of agriculture at the Stockbridge School of Agriculture, at the University of Massachusetts. He specializes in sustainable crop production, food systems, and marketing.
