The Heritage Farming Project is a new tool to “recruit, retain, and graduate underrepresented students interested in cultural, genetic and historic conservation." Using Heritage Farming as a platform, Dr. Orozco-Obando is will enhance the agriculture literacy of underrepresented students and enhance cultural and germplasm conservation with Native Americans, Indo-Hispanic, Hispanic and Latino students.
Dr. Warner Orozco has a B.S. in agriculture from the University of California, Davis and a Masters degree in Environmental Law from the International University of Andalucía, Spain (2000). He continued his academic career at the University of Georgia as part of the horticulture graduate program and earned a PhD from the Department of Horticulture at Auburn University. Dr. Orozco then joined the University of Florida as a Post-doctoral Research Associate at the Fort Lauderdale Research and Education Center. Currently, he works as Research Assistant Professor for Sustainability Studies Program at the University of New Mexico.
